Early access to Cabinet Records of 1974 – 7 December 2004

The National Archives of Australia reminds the media of its special briefing and embargoed access to the 1974 Cabinet records:

Friday, 10 December at 10:30 am
Menzies Room, National Archives
Queen Victoria Terrace, Parkes, ACT

The Cabinet records are provided on two conditions:

  • that the embargo of midnight on 31 December 2004 is observed
  • that the National Archives is acknowledged as the source in all published and broadcast news.

Journalists attending the briefing will receive copies of selected key Cabinet documents, a list of submissions and decisions, and information on the major events of the year.

At the briefing, historian Ian Hancock will summarise the political landscape, and former Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, John Menadue, will present a departmental perspective. Former Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam will also attend the briefing.

Morning tea and coffee will be served in the Visitors’ Lounge from 10 am.
