National Archives of Australia @ Old Parliament House
The National Archives' East Block building in Parkes is undergoing an exciting redevelopment so we can provide an even better experience when you visit. While this is happening, our reading room and Charters of Our Nation gallery will continue to operate from Old Parliament House until further notice.
You can find the National Archives@Old Parliament House by entering through the main entrance on King George Terrace. Our reading room and helpful staff are located on the main floor, adjacent to the Charters of Our Nation exhibition – a display of facsimiles of the Constitution and other founding documents.
Please review our opening times. Please note: the reading room now closes at 5pm Tuesday evenings.
Open 9am to 5pm daily (except public holidays)
Free after admission: $2 adults; $1 concession and children over 5.
This fee supports the conservation work to maintain the heritage-listed building in which we are a tenant.
Researchers who display their reader card at the Museum of Australian Democracy reception will not be charged the entry fee.
The National Archives' shop is not open at Old Parliament House. A limited selection of items and publications are available via our online shop, and some publications may be purchased from the reading room.
Two new permanent exhibitions are currently being curated for installation on the ground floor of the East Block building, along with a new temporary exhibition program. You can visit our national touring exhibitions with venues and tour dates across Australia or experience our online exhibitions via the Google Cultural Institute.
