Launching arrangements for HMAS Adelaide, 1918. NAA: C3644, 5
Allocated ship number 44, the Town class light cruiser HMAS Adelaide was laid down on 20 November 1917, launched on 27 July 1918 and completed on 31 July 1922. Overall length was 460 feet, and displacement was 5 560 tons. An extensive refit was undertaken at Cockatoo Island Dockyard in 1938–39 and it was allocated ship/job number 124. During the refit one funnel and two boilers were removed, the armaments were modernised, additional fuel tanks were built, and the boilers were converted for burning oil.
