HMAS Bathurst
Constructed as ship number 146, the HMAS Bathurst was one of 60 minesweepers built in Australian shipyards during World War II. Thirty-six were for the Royal Australian Navy, twenty for the British Admiralty, and four for the Royal Indian Navy. They were active in escorting convoys, transporting troops and stores, minesweeping, patrolling, bombarding and surveying. The other minesweepers built at Cockatoo Island Dockyard were the HMAS Goulburn, HMAS Bendigo, HMAS Wollongong, HMAS Cessnock, HMAS Glenelg, HMIS Madras, and HMIS Bengal. Laid down on 10 February 1940, HMAS Bathurst was launched on 1 August 1940 and completed on 5 December 1940. Its length was 186 feet and displacement was 735 tons. It later sank at its mooring in Sydney Harbour in June 1950.
