HMAS Brisbane
The Town class cruiser HMAS Brisbane was constructed at Cockatoo Island Dockyard as ship number 7. The main machinery and armaments were imported from Britain. It was laid down on 25 January 1913, launched on 30 September 1915 and commissioned on 30 October 1916. Measurements were 457 feet overall length, with 5Ê400 tons displacement. The cost of construction, approximately twice that of sister ships built in Britain (HMAS Sydney and Melbourne), was widely criticised.
