This series consists of a folder containing a collection of certificates from Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, and related correspondence, for SS Euwarra and lighthouse steamer Cape Leeuwin. A second folder contains provisional and final certificates for the Cape Leeuwin, a certificate for its engines and boilers, a class certificate and freeboard verification form.

Like other guidance drawings, these were supplied by the client and were used for reference in the design and construction of the vessels.

The estimates are from the different trade groups involved in building these steamers. Cockatoo Island Dockyard estimate 637 begins with a brief description of the vessels, a summary of the weights, a trade summary and the shipwrights’ summary. The estimate for the construction of the ships is then divided into the various trade sections, each listing a description of the items required, quantity, cost, labour, and a breakdown of material.

These working drawings were used in the actual construction of the ships; they show the design, mechanical layout and general fitting of the ships. This series also contains builders’ certificates, specifications and carpenters’ plans.

This series contains the diagrams and data of the launching. The launching drawings concern the lines and the displacement involved in launching the vessels.

This issue book functions as an unofficial register. It is divided into three parts: an issue list of working drawings for the two ships Cape Leeuwin and Cape York; those of Cape Otway; and the ‘as fitted’ drawings of Cape Otway.

The miscellaneous drawings that comprise this series were separated from the working drawings in the index and given their own single number identification. Included are lines and body drawings, appropriation of material and tiling plan.

Included in these drawings are general arrangements and profiles, sections, details of water services, calibrations and a docking plan.
