HMAS Stalwart

The escort maintenance ship (EMS)/destroyer tender HMAS Stalwart was constructed at Cockatoo Island Dockyard for the Royal Australian Navy as ship number 221. It was laid down on 23 June 1964, launched on 7 October 1966 and completed on 8 February 1968. Its overall length was 515 feet and displacement was 10 500 tons. Designed in the Navy Office, Canberra, this was the largest naval vessel built in Australia to that date. It was intended to operate as a mobile workshop to support naval vessels located away from Australian dockyards.
