Appendix C – Records Authorities approved
Under section 24(2) (b) of the Archives Act 1983 the Director-General issues Records Authorities for the disposal or retention of records, including those records that will be transferred to the Archives after being classed as ‘retain as national archives’. Records Authorities are developed in partnership with individual agencies to cover core business responsibilities. The Archives is also responsible for the development of general Records Authorities that cover records common to Australian Government agencies.
The following Records Authorities were approved in 2007–08:

- Australian Federal Police
- Australian Fisheries Management Authority
- Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
- Australian Office of Financial Management
- Australian Public Service Commission
- Australian Securities and Investments Commission
- CrimTrac
- CRS Australia
- Department of Defence – Defence Security
- Department of Immigration (NSW State Office)
- Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources
- Department of Parliamentary Services (two separate Records Authorities)
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs
- Food Standards Australia New Zealand
- IP Australia
- National Blood Authority
- Repatriation Commission (three separate Records Authorities)
- Social Security Appeals Tribunal
- general Records Authority for the transfer of custody and ownership of personal security files.
