Coming out at Albert Hall

Debutantes and their partners dancing at Albert Hall, 1956

With Canberra’s finest dance floor, Albert Hall has been the prized venue for balls and dances from its first years. The original orchestra pit was subsequently covered over, because from there dance bands could not see the feet of the dancers.

As shown in this photograph, from their new vantage point on stage behind a white picket fence, the musicians can see that the dancers are moving to their beat.
