From Monday 1 July 2019, prices for ordering copies of records held in the national archival collection will increase by 4.2 per cent in line with CPI. Prices were last increased in 2016.

This includes digitising records and certifying copies of original documents. Increased charges will also apply to purchase copies of audiovisual records, or to view them in a research centre where a digital copy does not exist.

Original paper records can still be accessed free of charge in research centres in each capital city. Researchers can use their own device to photograph these records.

A free self-service digitisation program is available in our Queensland reading room. The National Archives aims to roll this service out nationally.

Nearly 60 million pages of digitised records are already published online, with new content added each week. Access to these records remains free of charge.

The increased charges enable full cost-recovery of digitisation and ensure greater digital access to the national archival collection now and in the future for all Australians.
