International Council on Archives (ICA)

About the ICA

The ICA is the premier, non-government organisation that guides effective records management and archival practice internationally.

Archivists from 150 countries and territories belong to the ICA.

ICA membership

National Archives and individual staff members belong to the ICA. Currently, National Archives staff have the following roles:

  • Pacific regional branch treasurer
  • select working groups and committee membership.

Pacific Regional Branch of the ICA (PARBICA)

National Archives plays an active leadership role in the International Council on Archives' (ICA) Pacific Regional Branch. We manage the branch finances, membership and the PARBICA website.

PARBICA represents more than 20 Pacific nations, states and territories, including Australia.

Members include:

  • government archives
  • non-government archival institutions and associations
  • individuals.

With AusAID, NZaid and Archives New Zealand's cooperation, National Archives have led the development of the Recordkeeping for Good Governance Toolkit for the Pacific. This toolkit was translated into French for use in French-speaking territories in Africa and the Caribbean.
