The National Archives of Australia is committed to understanding Australia's multicultural population in order to build a more productive and socially cohesive Australia for all of us. As an Australian Government agency, the National Archives is responsible for developing and delivering policies, programs and services that are accessible by all Australians, responsive to their needs, and deliver equitable outcomes regardless of their cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
The National Archives continues to contribute to a shared understanding and appreciation of Australia's diverse heritage. Recent agency initiatives to increase multicultural access and equity have focused on internal training, publication, collection analysis, exhibitions, events and education programs such as those highlighted within the 2022–23 Annual Report. These initiatives featured records in permanent exhibitions and state-based displays that tell stories of Australia's diverse heritage.
The Department of Home Affairs has lead responsibility for coordinating the Australian Government's Multicultural Access and Equity policy.
