Nicola Laurent is currently the President of the Australian Society of Archivists and the Senior Project Archivist on the Department of Social Services' 'Find & Connect' web resource team, hosted at the University of Melbourne. She is also the New Professionals Programme Coordinator for the International Council on Archives, and a Member of the Australian Libraries and Archives Copyright Coalition Committee and the GLAM Peak Committee.
In her role as ASA President, Nicola leads the peak professional body for archivists and record keepers, setting the strategic direction of the ASA, acts as the key representative and spokesperson, and manages the ASA's team of employees and volunteers, including chairing the ASA Council.
Nicola holds a Master of Business Information Systems Professional from Monash University, specialising in archives, libraries, and recordkeeping, and is a PhD candidate in the School of Social Work at the University of Melbourne undertaking research about people's experiences of trauma in archives. Nicola advocates for trauma-informed archival practice and discusses the impact of vicarious trauma on archivists and is co-founder of the Trauma-Informed Archives Community of Practice. She has developed resources and training, and frequently presents and publishes on topics including trauma-informed archival practice, vicarious trauma, child welfare records, broken links, and engaging with community.
