Australia and the Netherlands are connected through our shared cultural history, with over 380,000 Australians self-identified as having Dutch ancestry.
In 2018, National Archives of Australia began collaborating with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Australia, the Nationaal Archief and the Huygens Instituut in the Netherlands to digitise more than 1,280 records. These records are now accessible to families and researchers in Australia and overseas.
National Archives' Dutch migration records deepen our understanding of Australia and the Netherlands in the years after the Second World War. They include intimate details of families who came for various reasons, whether hoping for a better life, seeking adventure or following love.
Uncover some of these stories of migration from the Netherlands.
This project has been assisted by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Australia.
