In reply to your favour of 4 Inst [4th of this month] - Re Hagi Meer Khan’s application for a certificate of Exemption from dictation test (No 23/7183. W/MB. He begs to inform as he cannot read or write he is unable to give you the names of the boat or the date of his departure but each time he left for India & returned, it was at Fremantle both ways, & last time he landed at Fremantle he voyaged in a P & O Boat from Colombo.
The same apply to Said Peeroo, another applicant who applied some days before Hagi Meer Khan. When Said Peeroo left last time, it was from Fremantle[.] it was then the regulation came in force about the certificate. he left without one and he paid £1- on landing at Fremantle last time he landed. as the aforesaid both applicants are leaving from Fremantle they request that their certificates be sent to Fremantle, when approved.
