The Honourable,
The Colonial Secretary,
SINGAPORE. [underlined]
Sir,
[Underlined heading:] AUSTRALIAN DEPORTATION OF MALAYAN CHINESE
We have the honour to refer to recent press reports on the above subject and to request that the Singapore Government would kindly and promptly institute the fullest enquiry into this matter with a view to ascertaining the exact reasons for such deportation and the particulars regarding every case of Malayan Chinese concerned.
We regret that we are unable to obtain more information than what is supplied by the local press which only reveals a sudden recrudescene [sic] of an out-dated racial policy.
We are deeply concerned because very strong resentment is now being felt by the people of Malaya on this matter which may lead to deplorable developments.
We have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servants,
Signed: Tan Hoon Siang
Chairman
Public Affairs, Sub-Committee,
Straits Chinese British Association,
SINGAPORE.
