On the eve of the departure of the "Discovery" for the Antarctic, I wish to convey to you and to all those who are associated with you in the Expedition the best wishes of the Commonwealth Government and the Australian people for your welfare during your voyage. We most earnestly hope that the Expedition will be crowned with success, and we look forward to welcoming in Australia next year all of you who have so gallantly volunteered to face the hazards of the Antarctic in the interests of science and exploration.
