About this record
During the British Australian New Zealand Antarctic Research Expeditions (BANZARE), the proclamations were read aloud, signed and placed in copper cylinders in Antarctica at the site of the proclamation ceremony. In 1979 the original Cape Bruce Proclamation was replaced with a copy and the original brought back to Australia for safekeeping. By this time, the original cylinders had begun to corrode and were replaced by brass cylinders.
