About this record
This book of Lutheran gospels and teachings has been translated into the Aranda (or ‘Arrernte’) language for First Australians living in Ntaria (Hermannsburg).
The creator, Carl Strehlow, was a missionary, anthropologist and linguist who worked with the Arrernte people between 1894 and 1922 on the Finke River Mission in the Northern Territory.
This record demonstrates early work in recording First Australian languages and the efforts of missionaries to convert First Australians to Christianity.
