This is a black-and-white photograph of the Hon. Robert James Lee Hawke, Australia's twenty-third Prime Minister. An official portrait shows him mid-speech. Known as 'Bob', Hawke won the 1983 election after only being Opposition leader for one month. He went on to lead the Labor government for eight years.
