This is a black-and-white photograph of the Rt Hon. Joseph Cook, Australia's sixth Prime Minister. It is an official portrait. The photograph shows him wearing a white shirt with a bow tie and sporting a beard. He is facing away from the camera. As the sixth Prime Minister, Cook took office in 1913 with a Liberal Party majority of only one seat in the House of Representatives. He presided over the arrival of the Australian Navy and his was the first government to be dismissed under a double dissolution.
