This is a black-and-white photograph of the Rt Hon. Sir William McMahon, Australia's twentieth Prime Minister. It is an official photograph taken when he was treasurer. McMahon took office as Prime Minister in early 1971 and stayed there until the end of 1972 when his government lost the election. During his tenure as Prime Minister, McMahon worked on such issues as withdrawing troops from Vietnam, Aboriginal land rights and delineating borders between Australia and Indonesia.
