Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that the National Archives' website and collection contain the names, images and voices of people who have died.
Some records include terms and views that are not appropriate today. They reflect the period in which they were created and are not the views of the National Archives.
Memorandum to Secretary, Australian Commission, Kuala Lumpur
The Secretary,
Australian Commission,
[Capitalised and underlined:] KUALA LUMPUR.
[Underlined heading] ADMISSION – FEMALE ASIAN TOURIST VISITORS.
A case recently occurred in which a female Asian tourist visitor, after arrival in Australia, married and then applied for authority to remain.
In order to avoid occurrences of this kind it is desired that you take all precautions to ensure that any application for a tourist visa is bona fide, before granting travel facilities for Australia and unless conclusive evidence can be produced that such an applicant will be returning, travel facilities should be refused.
If there is any doubt, particulars should be referred to this office for decision, with a report showing:–
(a) how the applicant is regarded by your office;
(b) whether the applicant has any friends or relatives resident in Australia; and if so, their names and addresses;
(c) whether the applicant is retaining her assets, homes, furniture etc., and whether her connections are such she is unlikely to sever them.
(T.H.E. HEYES)
Secretary.
