[underlined heading:] REPORT ON MIGRANT APPLICATION:
Name of applicant: [underlined] PAUL Robert Simson
Appearance of applicant and family: [underlined]
Paul and his family are clearly of mixed decent but look far more European than Asian. (His wife has one [underlined] Indian Grand-parent [sic]). They are well dressed. Paul is more relaxed than his photo indicates. Mrs. Paul is more attractive. She looks no darker than she would look after a two week coast holiday. Her hair (despite the appearance of the photograph) is mid-brown. Basically European. Mrs. Paul speaks only English. Paul speaks French (and speaks English with a slight French accent) but not well after 13 years away from Mauritius. The children seem irrepressible. They also speak only English. Mrs. Paul works as a secretary for British Leyland. She is at least as keen as Paul to go to Australia, where her sister lives. (The application has been discussed with the Nicholsons who have offered to put them up when they first arrive. Nicholson migrated from India – presumably he is also Anglo-Indian).
Use of English: [underlined]
Fluent and used normally.
Future Plans: [underlined]
Paul’s description of his job as "secretary" is inaccurate. He is a clerk. He is trained in shorthand and typing, but his work includes ordering stationary [sic], chemicals etc. for the Science Department, handling mail and keeping all relevant records.
Timing of Travel: [underlined]
He is committed to repaying a University loan made to him to enable purchase of a car. This will keep him in Uganda until early 1970. He would like to leave soon after.
General Comments: [underlined]
The attractive personalities of the members of this family would prevent integration problems.
