These men were part of the 1st Australian Wireless Signal Squadron who served in Mesopotamia from 1916 to 1918. They were based at the No. 12 Australian Wireless Station near Basra in the country now known as Iraq. Their tasks were to intercept enemy wireless communications and provide communications to the British forces.
