Dear Sir,
My daughter is married to a Malayan, who is a British subject, born in Singapore, but, by reason of his Asiatic parentage, has been advised by the Department of Immigration that he must return home. A passage has been arranged in S. S. "Marella", scheduled to leave Melbourne approximately the middle of next month. His wife and baby wish to accompany him, and they are booked to travel on the same ship.
My son-in-law's name is MOHAMED ABDUL HAMEED bin SALIKIN, and, when leaving Singapore, he was issued with British Passport No. 18262, dated 16/6/1939. He has an assurance that a good position will be available for him on arrival, and his brother-in-law has already advised being prepared to arrange accommodation for the family in his own home. His address is – Mr. AMAN bin HADJI ALI, 7 Mount Sophia Road, Singapore.
Neither Mrs. Jones nor I have any fears about his ability to provide our daughter with a standard of living almost comparable to that to which she has been accustomed, as he is highly educated and a gentleman; but to date we have not been able to ascertain whether the authorities will permit my daughter and her child to land, and in this regard I would very much appreciate your advice by return mail.
Yours faithfully,
