The Secretary,
Department of Immigration,
[Underlined] CANBERRA.
[underlined] Colombo Plan – Indonesia.
Mr. Bahroem Sjah, Counsellor of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, recently spoke to us on the "problem" of Indonesian Colombo Plan students marrying Australian girls and then wanting to remain in Australia. He said that these students were badly needed in Indonesia and he would like to see the Australian authorities insist on their return.
2. We have commented that we appreciated this loss to Indonesia but pointed out that there would be many problems involved in requiring an Indonesian who was married to an Australian to return to his country.
