About this record
Douglas Grant was an Aboriginal Australian who served in the First World War. All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people needed appropriate permission to travel overseas, which he had not obtained. The authorities first refused Grant passage to leave Australia for the front because of this. He re-enlisted after gaining permission.
