Forde was elected as Member of Parliament for the seat of Capricornia (WA), in the 9th federal election.
1940 to 1949
6 Jul 1945: 15th Prime Minister
On the death of John Curtin, deputy Prime Minister Frank Forde was sworn in until the federal parliamentary Labor Party elected a new leader.
13 Jul 1945: Left office
Forde was prime minister for only 8 days, leaving office on 13 July 1945. Ben Chifley was elected as Labor leader on 12 July and sworn in as prime minister to replace Forde the following day. After stepping down as prime minister, Forde was Minister for the Army and also Deputy Prime Minister in the Chifley government and Minister for Defence from August 1946, until he lost his seat at the election that year.

Forde lost his seat of Capricornia in the 18th federal election.
1980 to 1989
28 Jan 1983: Death
Forde died in Brisbane, aged 92.
